I'm traveling from Johannesburg to San Francisco. It's pretty much half way round the world: the shortest journey (both in time and distance) would be go westwards, via a direct flight to the US. But I'm a fan of the slower, more indirect routes, so I'm taking 6 weeks to go via an initial trip into East Africa, cross the Australian continent by train and island hop across New Zealand to the US West Coast. This blog documents the trip!

East to the West Coast
I looked at around the world tickets, but the round-half-the-world tickets are only offered by the one world alliance and they don't do the Joburg-Perth hop which I wanted. So I'm doing individual bookings.
